Temperature and moisture changes inside a home can lead to fogged up windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces. Fogged glass can be frustrating, impeding your clear view of your property and necessitating constant wiping with rags or paper towels. Here are a few ways to prevent this issue in your house.

How to Get Rid of Fogged Glass

1. Use Exhaust Fans

Exhaust fans pull moisture from the air and vent it outdoors. When cooking, turn on the fan over the stove. When showering or bathing, switch on the fan in the bathroom. Also, when washing clothes, keep the fan in the laundry room on for the duration. Once your tasks in these rooms are complete, let the fan continue to run for at least five minutes afterward so it can continue to pull out any lingering moisture.

2. Open a Window

During the colder months of the year, the furnace naturally raises the temperature level in the home, and closed windows trap those warmer conditions inside. Then, when the warm air encounters the cold windows, condensation forms. You don't need to open all your windows or keep them open fully. For a few minutes each day, or when performing any of the tasks discussed above, just crack one or two windows.

3. Shorten Your Showers

An exhaust fan in the bathroom can only do so much. When the bathroom is overrun with steam from a long, hot shower, some of it is going to escape under the door and fill the rest of the house, even if it's not plainly visible in other rooms. This increases moisture and temperature—and the likelihood of fogged glass. To counteract these effects, shorten your showers or decrease the water temperature by a few degrees.
