Security cameras provide an easy and effective way to monitor and protect a home. Cameras should be placed in optimal positions with clear views to ensure you get the best use out of them. Here are three ideal locations for home security cameras.

Where to Place a Home Security Camera

1. Front & Back Doors

Most people enter and leave a home through the front or back door, making these prime locations for security cameras. Install a camera above the door itself, slightly off to the side of the top of the door, or above a nearby window, and angle the lens so that it has a full and unobstructed view of the doorway. You’ll also be able to see who is knocking or ringing the bell before you answer.

2. First-Floor Windows

Position the lens outward so that it covers the space a few feet from the window; training it too close will only give you a clear sight of your window and siding. Alternatively, you could install the camera inside the window near the seal.

3. The Garage

Most homeowners store their vehicles, recreational equipment, tools, and other high-dollar items in their garage. But few consider the security risks of having such valuable items so readily accessible.

You have a couple of options when installing a camera in a garage. You can mount it over the exterior of the garage door as you would with a camera at the front or back door of the home. Or, you can place it in a spot where it can survey a wide expanse of interior space, such as high in a corner, above a workbench, or over the inside of the garage door.
