Properly cleaning your glasses can often take a backseat to the busyness of your day-to-day life. However, glasses help you see clearly and maintain your overall eye health and vision, so it's essential they're taken care of. Here are a few tips for cleaning your glasses.

How to Keep Your Glasses in Excellent Condition

1. Rinse First

Start the cleaning process by rinsing your glasses with lukewarm water. It provides a dirt-free surface, so you don’t work the particles into the lenses and scratch them. Wash your hands as well to avoid getting dirt and grime on the eyewear, and hold them by the center, or nose bridge area, to keep from bending the frames.

2. Work With a Microfiber Cloth & Recommended Cleaner Only

glassesClean your glasses with either eyewear cleanser or lotion-free liquid dish soap. If you use dish soap, apply a small amount to your clean, dry fingers and rub the lenses gently on both sides before thoroughly rinsing. Never use household cleaners or products with lotion to avoid removing the coating and leaving residue, respectively.

3. Use Your Protective Case

Keep your glasses in their case when you aren’t wearing them instead of leaving the eyewear on your bathroom sink, coffee table, bureau, or anywhere else. Eyewear left out accumulates dust and dirt particles, and can possibly get bent, knocked over, or otherwise broken. Invest in a hard case; it provides better protection than soft versions.

4. Wash Your Glasses Every Day

Cleanse your lenses daily to prevent dust and dirt particle buildup. This not only preserves the glass, but it also avoids eye strain. Dirty, smudged lenses create vision challenges that can result in headaches or pain around the eyes, especially if you wear yours every day for work.
