Porcelain tiles lend sophistication to any space, but for the floor to maintain its attractive appearance, it requires proper care. Here are some guidelines on how to clean the surface.

How to Keep Your Porcelain Floors in Top Condition

1. Perform Basic Cleaning

At least once or twice a week, sweep, mop, or vacuum the floors to eliminate general debris buildup, like dust and dirt.

Also, be mindful of the condition of your porcelain. If it’s unglazed, avoid saturating your mop since the surface is more porous than finished porcelain. Dry the floor promptly with a clean towel.

As part of basic care, clean any spills quickly to avoid any possibility of staining.

2. Handle Difficult Stains

Lihue, HI porcelain tilesAlthough porcelain doesn’t absorb much moisture and is therefore fairly impenetrable, stains may still develop from time to time. Apply a porcelain-friendly cleaning solution that doesn’t contain ammonia or bleach to the stain.

Scour the affected area with a bristle brush, then rinse it with a damp mop. Don’t use steel wool, as this may scratch the surface.

For more stubborn stains, allow the solution to soak for at least 20 minutes before rinsing.

3. Tackle Deep Cleaning

Deep clean porcelain tiles at least once a month to protect their appearance. Begin with a basic sweep or vacuum as you normally do.

Then combine a quarter cup of vinegar with two gallons of hot water, and pour it onto the tiles. Allow it to rest on the surface for approximately 10 minutes so it has a chance to loosen any buildup. Then saturate a mop in clean water and wipe the tiles.

Vinegar is safe to apply to both finished and unglazed porcelain; it will break down the grime effectively.
