Installing new countertops is one of the best ways to revitalize your kitchen or bathroom. This home improvement project can significantly increase your residence's financial value and aesthetic appeal. Below, learn about the countertop replacement process so that you can get started.

How to Upgrade Your Countertops

1. Selection

The process begins with your choice of quartz, granite or marble. There are many colors and patterns to choose from so it is a good idea to bring a cabinet sample along with possible tile back splash if that will be used. While engineered quartz can be selected from a sample, natural stone such as granite and marble need to be selected based on the lot that is currently available. Pricing varies on all material based on color. We will need to see dimensions of the space you are looking to put new tops on in order to give you an estimate. Be sure to include length and width dimensions and note any overhangs that will be needed on areas such as islands. Supports may be needed on overhangs and will need to be installed by your contractor prior to installation. Once you've chosen a surface, sink and edge, it’s time to get scheduled for your template and install. If you are getting new cabinets, your contractor will need to let you know when the base cabinets will be installed so that you can receive the template date from us.

2. Measurement

countertopsNext, your new measurements take place. Making the template can be accomplished with your existing countertops in place or directly off of the base cabinets (preferred method). Farm sinks must be mounted with all surrounding countertops and plumbing removed in order to make your template. Cast iron sinks must be cradled before your template will be made. If you have new cabinets, the base cabinets must be fully installed and can not be moved after we measure. Please have your cook top on site at the template appointment or provide the cutting dimensions. If using a downdraft, the specs must be provided as well. All items on existing countertops must be removed prior to the arrival of our templator.

3. What happens after the template appointment?

Homeowners should view the slab(s) that will be fabricated. This is a good time to go over any last minute details or questions you may have or that we may want to discuss with you before fabrication begins. We will review your sink selection and edge and corner radius option at this time.

4. Day of installation

Your installation may stretch to a few hours, depending on the complexity of the project. Old countertops must be removed by you or your contractor prior to installation. Your faucet and accessories such as a sprayer or soap dispenser must be on site for drilling. Plumbing re-connection should take place the next day.
