In your daily life, social media allows you to stay in touch with friends and family throughout the world. It can do the same for a class reunion. Here are a few ways to use social media to engage alumni and get them to campus for a reunion.

How to Use Social Media to Plan a Class Reunion

1. Make a Facebook Event Page

With over half of American adults checking Facebook multiple times a day, it’s a convenient platform to get alumni talking to each other and about an upcoming reunion. Create an event and invite all the alumni you can find, then encourage invitees to share the page with others who may not be members of your alumni organization.

On the page, share schedules for events as well as memories and pictures to get people excited about the reunion. You can even create polls about event activities to see which attendees are most interested in.

2. Share Photos & Videos

They’ll show what the event encompasses and generate interest in people who haven’t attended before. You can also reach out to alumni who appeared at previous reunions for positive quotes to include in the posts.

For a nostalgia factor, post old yearbook photos to remind alumni of friendships and interests. Create a hashtag specific to your class reunion, attach it to all your posts, and invite others to use the same hashtag for their throwback photos.

3. Encourage Participation

It’s easy to scroll past information about a class reunion. Grab people’s attention with posts that invite them to participate.

For example, challenge alumni to dig up as many old photos as they can, then have them vote on the best shots. Or have them tag three people they want to reconnect. Create fun or silly polls about favorite teachers or classes. You’ll likely get even more participation if you include prize drawings for items like reunion or drink tickets.
