Ovens can experience numerous problems throughout their working lives, many of which require professional attention. Below are some of the most common issues this major appliance deals with and what you can do about them. If you detect a more serious complication or can’t solve the problem yourself, schedule oven repair services from your local appliance experts.

Oven Repair Issues You Can Fix

1. The Door Won’t Shut

Check for a latch error message that indicates a sensor issue instead of a mechanical one. Reboot the control board to fix the sensor. If this doesn’t work, and you’re sure the part is to blame, schedule oven repair services. Otherwise, look for hardware issues, such as broken hinges or springs.

If you have a gas oven, turn it off before pulling the appliance out from the wall to check the hardware. Replace the springs or hinges as needed and check the gaskets that create seals between the door and the oven.

2. The Interior Light Stays Off

Remove the protective bulb cover and unscrew the old bulb if it’s a standard, then screw in the replacement. If you’re working with a halogen bulb, simply pull out the old light and push the new one in. Wear gloves while handling the bulbs to avoid injuries.

3. There’s a Lack of Heat

Check the burners if you own a gas oven or the power button if you have an electric model. If you have a gas oven that’s not igniting, ensure your household gas line is working by running the hot water tap on the kitchen faucet.

Should it stay cold, turn off the gas and call your utility company. Also, turn off the gas and make an oven repair appointment if there’s an ignition issue. For an electric oven, see if the heating elements glow red and schedule repairs if they don’t.
