Mice infiltrate homes for food, water, and shelter. Once inside, they can spread disease, reproduce by the dozens, and damage your property. Learn how to recognize their presence so you know when to seek pest management services.

3 Signs You May Have a Mouse Living With You

1. Nests

If you notice holes in towels or shredded newspaper around, you may have offered the key ingredients for a mouse nest. The rodents use their sharp teeth to tear up materials like cardboard, blankets, and even hair to form nests.

They tend to take up residence in warm, dark shelters like behind the fridge, next to the water heater, in drawers, or in the corners of a crowded garage.

2. Noises

pest managementMice are particularly active at night, so you might hear the sounds of squeaks and scampering. It may sound like the rodents are inside the walls or even in the ceiling. Dogs and cats can usually hear the high-pitched noises they make and may become restless, letting you know you may need to call a pest management specialist.

3. Droppings

Mouse droppings look like small, black beads. Mice can also leave mounds of dirt, grease, and hair that can be as large as two inches high and half an inch wide. Look for these signs in kitchen cabinets and pantries as well as around appliances and holes in the walls. Following the droppings may even lead you to the mice’s breeding grounds.
