Although your child establishes and strengthens their cognitive skills in kindergarten, they also gain a wealth of knowledge through education. While their mind is constantly prepared to absorb new information, they sometimes need a little patience when the lesson isn’t too fun for them to sit through. To instill a passion for education, growth, and improvement at an early age, consider various ways to make learning fun for your child outside of school hours.

How to Make Learning Fun at Home

1. Spend Quality Time Together

kindergartenSpending quality time together by cooking allows your child to associate knowledge with love, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment. Cooking allows your child to practice math by counting and measuring ingredients. Tie in some science by explaining how the heat of the oven turns liquid batter into a solid cake. Top the lesson off by eating a yummy treat, further associating learning with fun.

2. Play Games & Activities

Keep a number of resources and toys that your child could use independently, or with you, to entertain themselves while learning at the same time. Puzzles, building blocks, chemistry kits, and arts and crafts are excellent tools that are both fun and educational.

For example, arts and crafts helps them perfect their fine motor skills, which kids in kindergarten are still developing, as well as understand how colors, shapes, and textures can be put together to make something beautiful or useful.

3. Schedule Educational Trips

Your child will consider it a special treat to visit interactive places, such as a park, zoo, or an art or science museum. An interactive science museum, for example, may offer stations where a kindergarten-aged child can operate small machinery or devices that let them see, hear, or feel different objects, providing kinesthetic learning opportunities about biology and physics. These museums often show short, educational, and interesting films about astronomy, dinosaurs, or the ocean to entice children and keep them learning.
