If you rely on commercial refrigeration equipment to keep your business running, you understand how important it is for these installations to always be functioning properly. Something as small as it not cooling well enough can result in loss of inventory and health code violations. If your business’s refrigerator is too warm, here are the three most likely problems.

Possible Reasons Your Commercial Refrigerator Isn’t Cold Enough

1. Problem With the Doors

The most common reason the equipment isn’t able to properly cool the products inside is that the door is being opened too often. Make sure your staff is trained to only enter the unit when it’s absolutely necessary and to keep it closed if they’re going to be inside for an extended amount of time.

If the correct protocols are being followed and the issue persists, replace the gasket or hinge on the door. These become worn down over time and don’t allow the door to seal, which allows cold air to escape.

2. Damaged Condenser Coils

Commercial RefrigerationThese are responsible for taking the high-pressure refrigerant and cooling it back into a liquid to keep the unit at the correct temperature. Through normal usage, these coils become clogged and prevent the air from circulating efficiently. They’re found across the bottom or on the back of the cooler and need to be cleaned using a specialty coil brush to remove the debris blocking the coil.

3. Incorrect Temperature Read

Sometimes the commercial refrigeration equipment thinks it’s at the correct temperature when it’s actually warmer than it needs to be. There are two main culprits behind this problem. The control gauge is either not properly calibrated or is broken entirely. Check this by measuring the temperature with your own thermometer and seeing if the two match up.

If the gauge is working fine, make sure nothing is blocking any of the vents. These often get obstructed, which prevents the cold air from circulating throughout the unit despite being set at the correct temperature.
