When overhauling your bathroom with a new shower door installation, you’ll need to account for the new fixture in the overall design. Here are a few tips to ensure the glass shower enhances the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the room.

4 Tips for Your New Shower Design

1. Pick an Appropriate Shower Angle

There are three standard angles for showers: 90°, 135°, and 180°. 90° is best used in small bathrooms to conserve space. It forms a square out of two corner and two glass walls, one of which is the door.

135° has the same corner layout, but with a third glass panel as the door. It provides a wider entrance, making it ideal for people with mobility issues.

180° takes up three walls with one glass door. If you have plenty of room, this angle will give you the most shower space.

2. Position the Shower Head in the Direction of a Wall

3. Plan an Effective Shower Curb

The shower curb also plays a role in protecting your bathroom from water overflow. The curb should rise at least two inches above the shower drain. To ensure water trickles back toward the drain, use an inward slope of five degrees, or a 1/4″ slant toward the drain.

4. Consider the Shower Door Opening

Building codes specify that all shower doors must open outward to allow unrestricted access to an injured person in case of a fall. Take this into account while planning your shower door installation. If your bathroom doesn’t have much space, choose a sliding door instead.
