These days, it can feel like people rarely turn their smartphones off. However, if you do disconnect to save your phone’s battery or take a break, it can be troubling if this function isn’t working. If you’re dealing with this issue, here are a few steps to take before heading to an iPhone® repair shop.

3 Steps to Take if Your iPhone Doesn’t Turn Off

1. Try a Hard Reset

If the normal on/off button isn’t working, hold down this button along with the home button for several seconds. Even if the slider appears on your screen, continue holding down both until the screen goes black. Next, turn your phone back on, and you should see the standard Apple® logo on a white screen; you won’t lose any memory or data.

2. Use Software

3. Restore Your Phone

Your phone may not be turning off due to the operating system. Sometimes, a glitch occurs that can usually be patched with an OS update, but sometimes users don’t download those updates right away. If an update is available, download it to see if that solves the problem. If not, connect the phone to your synced computer and restore it from your last backup.

Once you hook it up with a USB, go into your settings, and find the Restore Backup option. It will then update for a few moments to restore your phone to the settings you had the last time you synced it to your computer.
