It can be difficult to get children excited about a proper oral hygiene routine. However, to protect their teeth, it’s important for them to brush for at least two minutes a day, as well as floss. In order to encourage your kids to care for their smile, you have to make it fun. Here are a few ideas to start with.

How to Spice Up Your Child’s Oral Hygiene Routine

1. Make It a Family Affair

Children often imitate their parents, and this carries over to brushing and flossing. If they see you engaging in an oral hygiene routine, they’re more likely to happily take one on themselves. Take some time to brush your teeth together, and play some fun music in the background.

2. Brush During a Commercial Break

Kids might feel like they’re too busy to brush their teeth. There are so many games and toys to play with, after all. Get them to brush their teeth during a commercial break of their favorite show. You can pause and fast forward through the commercials after so they don’t miss out if brushing takes longer than expected.

3. Keep a Routine

4. Utilize Rewards

Figure out what motivates your child. Don’t offer them food products, as they’ll have just brushed their teeth. Instead, try stickers, technology time, or even encouraging words. If you use stickers or other prizes, put up a chart on the wall so they can see their progress.

5. Shop for Supplies Together

Kids will be more excited to brush their teeth if they get to choose their toothbrush and toothpaste. Take them to the store and have them pick these out. There are a lot of branded brushes for kids that might have their favorite superhero or princess on them. However, when they choose a brush, make sure it has soft bristles to avoid gum issues.
