Bad breath is something we've all dealt with; whether you've had someone take note of your "morning breath" or a potent odor after a garlic-filled dinner, everyone has experienced its ill effects. But a good dentist will inform their patients on ways to not only mask but prevent perpetual bad breath. To deal with bad breath, one must understand the reason behind it, and only then can they effectively treat the problem.

The family dentist C.R. Sfeir D.D.S., General Dentistry in Lorain, OH, shares two common causes of bad breath:

  • Not Flossing Daily: Many people have the importance of brushing their teeth on a daily basis instilled in them. But that is not the only way to prevent bad breath and a variety of dental problems. Flossing daily is equally as important as brushing, and it is recommended that you floss on a daily basis. Flossing removes food that is lodged in between teeth, which can be a culprit of bad breath.

  • Not Drinking Enough Water: People who do not drink an adequate amount of water will often experience problems with bad breath. Drinking water, as well as chewing gum, will keep the mouth moist and create a better production of saliva. A dry mouth can lead to issues with bad breath.
