Many people make a few resolutions at the beginning of a new year. During this period of renewal and reflection, aim to start fresh and begin with a clean slate. As a Christian, you may want to make resolutions that support your beliefs and values. Here are a few suggestions to keep in mind.

New Year’s Resolutions for Christians

1. Forgive Others

In the new year, think about people who have upset or hurt you, and try to release any lingering ill feelings toward them. If you find it challenging to move forward, recite the Serenity Prayer and ask God for the grace to accept what you cannot change, like the past. When you forgive others, you’ll release a heavy burden from your heart, allowing you to lift your spirit and make more room for love.

2. Pray More

ChristianPraying whenever you can will strengthen your connection with and commitment to the Lord. Praying doesn’t have to be formal or happen during a specific routine. You can pray at any time, whether you’re taking a shower or waiting for the kids after school. Prayer can also take many forms, from daily devotional readings to writing down sermons so that you can understand them better.

3. Read the Bible

As one of your resolutions, try to read the Bible at least a few minutes each day or week. Reading the Bible allows you to practice your faith, focus on your beliefs, and remember your blessings. Even if you’ve read the Bible cover to cover, take another pass at the text. You may discover new meanings and interpretations, which will help you better understand the word of the Lord.

If one of your resolutions is to go to church more frequently in the new year, head to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Honolulu, HI. You’ll connect with other Christians as you deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ. Attend a weekend church service if you’re only in town for a short period, or commit to regular mass if you’re a resident. Get printed versions of the sermons online, or call (808) 922-6011 to ask about their weekly Bible study schedule.
