A funeral board offers a simple way to tell stories about a loved one who passed away. The use of images together in one place can highlight the person’s life and accomplishments, giving everyone who sees them opportunities to reflect on the individual. Here’s how to build one.

A Guide to Building a Funeral Board

1. Gather the Right Photos

The photos should represent the hobbies and interests of the deceased. By picking the right photos, you’ll know what other items to add to the funeral board. For example, if the person has photos of dance performances, include a lace or piece of a garment on the board.

2. Pick a Large Display Board

funeralPeople usually opt for 48x36-inch posters. These posters give you space to get creative and show your loved one in their best light. Still, others choose smaller options. Speak with the funeral director about what the best size for the room will be.

3. Grab Essential Tools

You’ll need glue, tape, pushpins, spray adhesives, photo corners, and removable bonding agents to fix your photos to the board. By bringing these tools, you’ll give yourself plenty of options for holding the images to the board. If a certain photo is valuable to you, use tape or pushpins rather than glue.

4. Give the Board Life

There are many ways to give a funeral board personality. Use glitter, different cuts of paper, markers, and items that belonged to the deceased person to bring their personality to life. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. The point is to give others a way to remember your loved one. Focus more on provoking emotions and less on the technical aspects of board-building.
