A vinyl fence is a low-maintenance, durable option for your property. It doesn’t require staining and painting, and its nonporous surface allows you to clean it with water. Here are a few ways you can clean it if the posts accumulate dirt.

How to Clean a Vinyl Fence

1. Vinegar

Vinegar is a natural cleaning agent. Mix one cup with two gallons of water, and soak a clean cloth with the mixture.

Wipe down the fence first, and if there are tough spots, soak a bristled brush and scrub. When you’re done, grab your garden hose and rinse everything off with clean water.

2. Dish Soap

Dish detergent is another effective, gentle product that can tackle the grime on your fence. Add several tablespoons to two gallons of clean water.

Just like with the vinegar solution, soak a clean rag and wipe down the surface to get the top layer of dirt off. For tough stains, use a bristled brush, and rinse the suds with clean water.

3. Bleach

Another option is one part bleach to five parts water. Add this to a spray bottle and soak the dirty area. Make sure to thoroughly rinse afterward to prevent staining.

Bleach is also effective for removing mold or mildew. If these are issues you often experience, considering applying a mold-proof sealant to prevent future growth.

4. Pressure-Washing

A pressure-washer removes debris, stains, and caked-on grime from vinyl fences.

Begin with clean water and see how much is removed. If your fence still has marks, add a cleaning agent designed for pressure washers to the machine. Be sure to rinse with clean water when you’re done.
