You may think the only factor impacting your car’s well-being is the quality of its parts and construction. However, the way you drive also plays a role. If you want to avoid premature auto repairs, stop these bad driving habits.

3 Driving Habits That Damage Your Car

1. Driving on Low Fuel

Some people don’t fill up the tank until the indicator light comes on. However, it’s better for your car to get gas before the gauge reads below a quarter. Pulling gas from the bottom of an almost empty tank brings up sediment as well, which will damage your fuel line and filter.

2. Driving Fast Over Speed Bumps

auto repairBumps are installed to limit how fast vehicles can travel through residential areas or other locations where speeding is especially dangerous. Still, some drivers will fly over these bumps, which can bust tires, bend rims, break shocks, or damage the suspension system.

Instead, curb your speed when approaching these bumps, and cross them slowly. Exercise the same caution with potholes.

3. Revving Your Engine

While you may like the sound of revving your engine, you could be putting your car on the road to auto repair. Engines are comprised of many connected moving components like valves, pistons, and crankshafts. If your engine hasn’t been running long enough for oil to lubricate these parts, the friction could end up breaking parts or overheating the system.
