Swimming pools are excellent ways to enjoy the summer. They allow you to relax with friends and family and can provide you and your kids hours of entertainment. Both above-ground and in-ground pools are fantastic options, but each offers pros and cons. Here are three factors that can help you decide.

Should You Get an Above-Ground or In-Ground Pool?

Cost

The average cost of an in-ground pool can be tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the model, size, and material. An above-ground pool installation can range from a couple to a few thousand dollars.

If cost is a significant concern, opt for a more affordable above-ground pool. If you think an in-ground pool is worth the investment but don’t have the funds up-front, you may be able to finance it.

Size

In-Ground PoolThe main difference in size between an above-ground and an in-ground pool is the depth. Most above-ground pools are 48 inches to 52 inches deep.

An in-ground pool can be as deep as 96 inches and include benches, shallow splash pads, and tanning ledges. If you’re set on having a pool that is deeper than 4.5 feet, an in-ground pool is the way to go.

Maintenance

When it comes to maintenance, the work involved in both is about the same. Both pools need vacuuming and skimming to remove sunken and floating debris. Also, both require a filtration system and pool chemicals to keep the water clean. No matter which route you choose, daily maintenance in the summer is necessary.
