Ice machines are convenient for both homes and businesses, allowing you to cool your drinks without cluttering your freezer with plastic trays. However, they require maintenance to ensure they function safely and effectively for many years. The guide below explains how to take care of yours.

A User’s Guide to Ice Machines

1. Inspect It

To catch issues before they worsen, regularly inspect your ice machine. Check for oil spots and other signs of leaks in the refrigeration system and service access valves. Examine the control box and electrical components for burnt or loose connections. If you notice any problems, call for professional repairs as soon as possible.

2. Clean the Interior

ice machineClean your ice machine as often as the manufacturer recommends, which is typically at least two to four times a year. After taking out the ice and disassembling the machine, mix a solution of ice machine sanitizer and lukewarm water. Then, apply it to all parts of the machine using a spray bottle or soak the disassembled parts in the solution. This process will discourage bacterial and biofilm growth.

3. Clean the Exterior

Once that is done and the unit is reassembled, clean the exterior using a soft cloth and neutral cleaner, such as mild dish soap. More abrasive chemicals, such as those that contain chlorine, can damage components.
