Mold can be damaging to your home; it ruins fixtures, furniture, and flooring, and causes respiratory issues in people with allergies or asthma. While you can do your best to keep the living spaces clean, this substance can hide in unsuspecting places, and it may go undetected until you get a mold inspection. Here are a few areas where mold may be hiding.

Where Does Mold Hide in My Home?

1. Inside the AC

Mold growth is likely to occur when condensation lingers in your air conditioner. You may notice a musty smell coming from the unit when it runs, and this odor is usually strongest after the AC has been off for a while. To prevent this issue, disinfect the inside of the unit with water and bleach or schedule a professional cleaning. This task should happen at least once a year, but more frequent maintenance may be needed based on usage.

2. Under the Refrigerator

Refrigerators also make condensation, which is why drip pans are positioned under the appliance. If you don’t regularly clean the drip pan, mold will start to grow in it. Disinfect the container with a solution of water and white vinegar. Use the mixture to wipe the surrounding components as well as the floor under the pan.

3. In the Washing Machine

4. On the Window Sill

When combined with moisture, dirt fuels mold growth by providing it with a source of food. Since proper airflow dries moisture, leave the windows open occasionally to increase circulation. You can also wipe the window sill once or twice a week to remove the dirt and grime that accumulates there.
