While most drivers keep up with regular auto maintenance like oil changes and brake service, they often neglect to have their wheel alignment checked. If your car exhibits any of the following signs, bring it to a trusted auto repair shop right away to make sure its wheels are correctly aligned.

Do You Need Wheel Alignment?

1. Veering or Pulling

It’s normal to experience some drifting when you’re not holding the wheel tightly, as every road has imperfections or a natural peak to shunt away rain. However, if your car seems to have a mind of its own when your hands are off the steering wheel, there may be an issue with your alignment.

2. Uneven Tire Wear

Under normal operating conditions, all four tires wear evenly in predictable patterns. If your tires show excessive wear exclusively on the outside or inside edges, or the tread ribs are more worn on one side, consider having an auto repair expert check your alignment. Having it corrected greatly extends the life and safety of your tires.

3. Poor Handling

As you drive, pay attention to the feel of the steering wheel in your hands. Note how the car responds to turning. If the wheel shudders or vibrates, it may be a feedback signal from misaligned wheels. A sensation of loose handling or poor responsiveness when you try to steer, especially around corners, can be another sign of improper alignment.

4. Your Steering Wheel Tilts

After taking a corner, loosen your grip and glance at the steering wheel. With proper alignment, the wheel should rotate back to center on its own. Check out the emblem or symbol at the center of your wheel. If it’s still tilting off-center when you’re back on straight road, it may be time to head to a trusted auto repair shop for wheel alignment.
