Even though water is one of the most essential nutrients for a tree, the rainy season’s excess precipitation can cause problems, such as root rot and infection. To keep your landscape in excellent condition year-round, use the following tree maintenance tips.

3 Tree Maintenance Tips for the Rainy Season

1. Don’t Overwater

If your trees are already receiving enough water from the natural rainfall, overwatering could flood the roots, preventing them from getting enough oxygen. If it’s been raining frequently, conduct this easy test: dig a six-inch hole near the tree and feel the soil. If it’s more than damp, hold off on watering.

2. Aerate Soil

3. Prune & Trim

During the rainy season, it’s not uncommon for harsh winds to accompany rainfall. If your trees have any dangling or diseased branches, the gusts can tear them off, leaving rough, jagged wounds on the bark. If they become airborne, they could damage neighboring trees. Prevent these consequences by having your trees trimmed before the rainy season arrives.
