In the summer months, you may have noticed overgrowth in your trees or plants. Maybe they're interfering with power lines, or are growing into someone else's yard. You don't have to wait until next summer to take care of this problem; land clearing is still possible in the winter.

Land Clearing Tips for the Winter Months

Plants are Dormant

Dormant plants are more comfortable to work around, because they're usually shorter or not present above the soil. Plants that are in a dormant state are also less likely to be killed during land clearing because plants are using their own mechanisms to protect themselves. Still, try to steer away from them when you drop loose tree branches.

Ground is Hard

land clearingIt's easier to step around in a hard territory. Heavy equipment that's used by contractors to lift and cut down trees is more likely to sink in soft soil. Working on hard, frozen ground is more beneficial for the plants as well because they're less likely to be disturbed by the rocking of the equipment.

No Deciduous Foliage

Large trees are often the cause for land clearing because they obstruct government property, pipes, windows, foundation, and often lurk into other people's properties. Deciduous trees hibernate by losing their leaves, making it easier to get to the base of the tree and cut it without struggling with leaves.

Low Precipitation and Runoff

Even though precipitation for snow may be high, it often freezes before it melts in the middle of the winter. There's a lower chance of mud and runoff, making it easier to maneuver around your backyard and do yard work. Heavy equipment is also less likely to get stuck or ruined from unexpected heavy rainfall.
