Traveling in a recreational vehicle can be eco-friendly if you know how to keep energy usage under control. Cutting back on your consumption will reduce the amount of pollution you create, protecting the environment and cutting back on your bills. To enjoy the comforts of home on the road, such as helpful RV appliances and climate control, without using a lot of energy, consider the following tips.

How to Make RVs More Efficient

1. Install Solar

Harness the power of the sun for free, sustainable energy by installing solar panels on your roof. The fact that you can move your home means you can maximize how much sunlight the panels capture. In northern states, this means parking in areas that face south and avoiding trees. The energy you create will power your electric RV appliances, lighting, and climate control. Solar energy also gives you a lot more flexibility on where you stay; you won’t need to count on plugging in at a campground, so you can be self-sufficient in the wilderness.

2. Seal Windows & Doors

3. Use a Skirt

The space between the RV floor and the ground allows for airflow underneath you. During the winter, a lot of your heat is lost in this area. RV skirting prevents this issue, as you’ll have another layer of insulation to avoid heat transfer. This is a worthwhile investment, as it also prevents freezing. When choosing a material for the skirt, go with vinyl, as it’s durable and reusable.
