The chance to marvel at vintage gems from bygone eras is why many people attend car shows. Muscle cars are a favorite fixture at these events. Introduced to the American automobile industry in 1949, the heyday of this high-performance class of vehicle was a few decades later, when drag racing was at its peak. Since many of these models were special or limited editions, it’s rare to see these rides on the road today. Whether you’re a serious collector or a casual fan, here are three rare muscle cars to try to see in person at a car show.

3 Muscle Cars on Collectors’ Wish Lists

1. 1970 Plymouth® Hemi Superbird

If you spot one of these rare jewels at a car show, you’re in luck. An update to the Plymouth Road Runner racers and similar in design to the Dodge Charger Daytona, only 135 of the Hemi Superbird were produced. The vehicle boasts a powerful Hemi 426-cubic-inch engine and a horn that mimics the distinctive “beep” of the namesake Looney Tunes® character.

2. 1970 AMC® Rebel “The Machine”

car showWhen it hit the market in 1970, only 2,326 consumers invested in the 1970 AMC Rebel Machine. The model was a collaboration between AMC and Hurst, featuring a 390-cubic-inch AMC V8 engine. With 340 horsepower, the car could go from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.

3. 1969 Chevrolet® Camaro ZL1

This update to the original 1969 Camaro, the ZL1 model featured an aluminum L88 engine capable of 560 horsepower. Only 69 consumers were lucky enough to snag this limited-edition vehicle, which is what makes it an elite find at a car show. As with many vehicles used for professional drag racing, the Camaro was later retooled with a smaller engine to make it more affordable to general motorists.
