The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, but it also provides the opportunity to give back to the community, especially for alumni. Many people return to their hometowns for the holidays, so everyone in an alumni organization can get together for charitable events. Here are a few ideas to inspire your giving spirit.

3 Charitable Events for Alumni During the Holidays

1. Hold a Charitable Run or Walk

The holidays are a time to spend with loved ones, often relaxing and indulging in good food. A walk or run dedicated to a good cause can be a welcome relief from the many filling meals during the season and allows participants of all ages to get active. You can raise money either through registration dues, sponsoring runners, or both.

2. Hold a Charity Auction

Keep it casual: people can stop in at their leisure, bid on their favorite items, and greet other alumni and their families. You also have the option of offering current and former students the chance to perform or speak during the event.

3. Hold a Clothing or Toy Drive

Aside from raising money, you can band together to collect clothing, toys, food, or other goods for those who need them during the holidays and beyond. An event like this can be flexible: hold it on a single day or weekend and have people stop by, or set up a collections box that can be collected regularly throughout the season.
