When termites have ravaged the wooden components of your home, only drastic pest control measures will do. During the fumigation process, you’ll have to leave your home for a couple of days, but when you return, it will be pest-free and peaceful. If you’re not sure what to expect from this termite treatment, consult the following guide.

A Brief Guide to the Termite Fumigation Process

1. Covering Up

To begin, your pest control team will encase your home in tarps, which are held in place by sandbags around the perimeter. They will then make sure the house is clear of people, pets, plants, food, and medicine. To allow for proper ventilation, they may set up fans and open drawers. After locking the property and placing a notice on the door, they’ll begin to administer the termite treatment gas that will work its way into the infested wood.

2. Aeration

3. Re-Entry

Once the ventilation process has eliminated the remaining fumigant, the crew will begin to take down the tarps around your property. They'll then test the indoor air with professional equipment for any lingering fumigant. If it’s clear, you’ll be allowed to re-enter your home and get back to everyday life—this time, without termites getting in the way!
