Having glass tabletops in your living room and dining area makes the whole space look more attractive; however, scratches on the glass can negatively impact the look. You might be able to fix minor scratches, but deep marks are difficult to remove without expert knowledge. The tips below will help you prevent them.

How to Keep Your Tabletop Beautiful

1. Use a Tablecloth

A glass tabletop is often the centerpiece of a room, and it shouldn’t always be covered. However, use a tablecloth during meal times to protect the table when it is most likely to be damaged. For example, it’s common for silverware to scratch glass tables. If you want the glass on display, use a table-runner along the center, and leave most of the glass exposed. This will decorate and protect it.

2. Clean Safely

Check the label on cleaning products to make sure they’re safe for glass. If you want to make your own glass cleaner, mix white vinegar with water. At least half of the ratio should be water.

3. Protect Your Tabletops From Kitchen Items

Always use coasters and placemats when putting cups, plates, or bowls on the table. Also, never place hot items directly onto the surface. If you like to keep books on your coffee table, put them on a runner instead of on the glass. Finally, discourage children from putting toys on the table, especially any with hard surfaces or metal parts, such as zippers.

4. Keep It Away From Traffic

Positioning your table carefully will help to protect it from damage. If the table is in an area where people often walk between the living room and the kitchen, for example, it’s more likely to get bumped or for someone to accidentally drop something on it. If keeping it out of the way is tricky, use rubber bumpers to stop the glass tabletop from moving if something knocks into it.
