January is the beginning of tax season.  Even though the IRS likely won’t begin accepting e-filed tax returns until the 20th of January, your return can be prepared as soon as you have all of your W2’s, 1099’s, etc needed to complete your return.  STL Tax can submit your return prior to the open of e-filing season and our software vendor will hold it in que until the IRS begins accepting returns.  The IRS processes returns in the order received.  The IRS does not provide specific refund dates but most refunds are direct deposited within 21 days.  In addition to getting a refund right away, filing early is also a great way to protect yourself against tax identity theft.  When you file your return the IRS will not accept another return in your name electronically.
