Tri-State Wholesale’s 50-Year History

Beginnings

Founded in 1970 by Al and Peggy Kenkel, Tri-State Wholesale Building Supplies got its start by manufacturing energy-efficient vinyl windows. As the price of aluminum escalated during this decade, vinyl windows became a much cheaper option, and steel reinforcements made them an incredibly durable option for homes.

Development

Over time, consumers started to demand higher-quality vinyl products that would resist discoloration and damage. Tri-State Wholesale Building Supplies was one of the first companies in the area to offer products made from the SunShield® vinyl compound, which helps windows retain their color and protects against peeling, corrosion, cracking, and rotting. It was also one of the first companies in Cincinnati to offer windows with reflective low-E coatings, which continue to save homeowners energy and money.

Present Day

Today, Tri-State Wholesale Building Supplies is still owned by the Kenkel family and run by second- and third-generation family members. In addition to windows, they now sell doors, siding, vinyl railings, columns, shutters, decking, and enclosures. They’re currently in the process of expanding operations into a newly constructed 100,000-square-foot building, located at 657 Evans Street in Lower Price Hill, which will open within the first quarter of 2020.
