A recent study determined that the longest-lasting vehicles are SUVs, with the Toyota Sequoia leading the charge. Five of the vehicles in this survey were American made, but the vast majority of the longest-lasting vehicles are foreign. Japanese manufacturers like Toyota and Honda® are the safest as well.

Maintenance

In most circumstances, domestic cars are less expensive upfront, but more expensive to maintain. However, there are exceptions like the BMW® or other European luxury brands, which are generally costlier both to purchase and repair. A mechanic may have to order in a part from overseas, increasing costs.
