Bedbugs are unfortunately common pests that tend to hide in the corners of mattresses and within the folds of upholstery. Although pest control professionals can trace their location to treat the infestation effectively, it’s important to know about areas where these unwanted critters might hide. Here are some unexpected spots to keep in mind.

Where Can You Find Bedbugs?

1. Laundry Baskets

Studies have shown that bedbugs may be attracted to the dirty clothes lingering in your laundry basket. Clothing alone is a safe hiding place for these insects because it provides easy access to folds, pockets, and creases that conceal them. Since laundry baskets usually end up on bedroom floors, it’s also likely that bugs already in the space will make their way into the bin. Additionally, guests who put their dirty clothes into the basket might transfer insects from their suitcases to the laundry.

2. Electrical Outlets

bedbugsA homeowner might never think to look for these pesky bugs in their electrical outlets, but they can make it in there, too. This will more likely be the case in a home that has a serious infestation, or one in which the bedroom has gone untreated for a significant amount of time. The outlets closest to the mattress are most likely to be affected.

3. Behind Baseboards

Since bedbugs are so small, it's very difficult to find them with the naked eye. Often, they'll travel to the darkest and warmest spot available, which is typically behind the baseboards. If there are any gaps or spaces in the vicinity, it'll be easy for them to get inside. This space also provides them with a passageway around the room and through the house. You can resolve this problem by applying caulk to all openings in the home to create a barrier that locks out the bugs.
