Brick isn’t just a popular material for hardscapes. It can also be used on the floors, fireplaces, and walls of your indoor space. Although brick is durable, it may require annual cleaning to remove stains and dust. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to clean the brick in your home.

4 Steps for Cleaning Indoor Brick

1. Take Off Decorations

hardscapeBefore you can begin the process, you must get any decorative accents out of the way. If any standing decorations are blocking access to the wall, remove those as well. This will reveal hidden dust and protect your belongings from water damage.

2. Use a Vacuum

If you see loose dirt on your wall, use a vacuum with a brush attachment to clean it off. Begin with the top left corner and work your way across and down the brick. Starting from the top will ensure no dust falls on clean areas.

3. Saturate the Brick with Water

Dry brick absorbs cleaning products easily. To prevent the material from getting discolored, use a spray bottle filled with water to wet the brick before applying abrasive substances.

4. Scrub

To make a cleaning solution, mix one cup of dish soap with one cup of salt. The degreasing properties of dish soap and abrasiveness of rock salt are useful for removing built-up grime.

Spread the paste over the brick with a dry rag. Then, scrub the surface with a bristled brush. Once the mixture has sat for around 10 minutes, wipe the wall with a damp rag. It will dry naturally.
