1. Remove Personal Belongings

2. Remove License Plates & Cancel the Registration

If you haven’t yet, cancel the registration with Connecticut’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If you don’t do this, you may have unnecessary tax responsibilities. After canceling this, you may also cancel your auto insurance.

3. Locate the Title

To legally transfer ownership to the salvage yard, you’ll need to provide them with a valid title. This proves that you own the vehicle, so the purchase is therefore legal. Transferring the title also means you relinquished responsibility for the vehicle.
