Sending a junk car to the salvage yard is a quick way to make a profit on a vehicle you don’t use. Even if the car doesn’t run, the yard may be able to tow it to the facility for your convenience. However, before the tow truck arrives, take some time to get the vehicle ready.

How to Prepare a Junk Car for Pickup

1. Remove Personal Belongings

You may have accumulated several possessions that now reside in your vehicle. They may be hiding in the trunk, in the glove box, in the door compartments, or even under the seats.

Make sure to collect all objects before the towing vehicle arrives. If the car has been sitting for a while, you might just find some items you forgot you owned.

2. Remove License Plates & Cancel the Registration

Junk car in Barkhamsted, CTTake the plates off the car. You may be able to save some money by transferring them to your next vehicle.

If you haven’t yet, cancel the registration with Connecticut’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If you don’t do this, you may have unnecessary tax responsibilities. After canceling this, you may also cancel your auto insurance.

3. Locate the Title

To legally transfer ownership to the salvage yard, you’ll need to provide them with a valid title. This proves that you own the vehicle, so the purchase is therefore legal. Transferring the title also means you relinquished responsibility for the vehicle.

If you cannot find your title, you can request a duplicate from the Connecticut DMV.
