If you’re moving into your first apartment, you might already be excited about picking out a couch and decorating your own space for the first time. However, there is a seemingly endless array of less exciting items you’ll need, some of which you might have always taken for granted. Below are a few things you’ll need before moving into your first apartment.

4 First Apartment Purchases

1. Cleaning Supplies

Now that you have your own place, it’ll be your responsibility to keep it clean. When shopping for supplies, don’t forget a mop and broom, glass cleaner, lint-free dusting cloths, a toilet brush, and an all-purpose bathroom cleaner.

2. Laundry Supplies

Whether your apartment has a washer and dryer or communal laundry facilities, you’ll need supplies for washing your clothes. Pick up some laundry detergent, bleach, and fabric softener, along with an iron and a hamper for your dirty clothes.

apartment3. Kitchenware

Bowls, plates, and glasses can be fun to shop for, but you’ll also need a set of pots and pans for cooking. To start, get two frying pans in different sizes, a few sauce pots with lids, and a set of utensils that includes spatulas and knives.

4. Bathroom Items

The bathroom is usually the smallest room in an apartment, but stocking it could take a separate shopping trip. In addition to toilet paper, toothpaste, and all the necessities, you’ll also need to buy bathroom mats, towels, a shower curtain, and perhaps some nonslip stickers for the shower.
