Vehicle radiators move coolant through the engine to prevent it from overheating and shutting down. When these car parts fail, you’re at risk of the engine failing and stranding you. Below are three signs you should install a new radiator to avoid this issue.

3 Indications You Need a New Radiator

1. Dashboard Oil Light

Check the dashboard lights every time you enter the car to see if any are on. The one that looks like a thermometer near the speedometer illuminates red if the engine oil is too hot. If this light is on, the radiator needs attention.

The average temperature range is between 195 and 220 degrees Fahrenheit, but going higher in the hot months is reasonable. Temperatures that are usually above 220 might mean the radiator has corrosion and rust buildup, causing a clog. You will need to replace the car part to cool the oil properly.

2. Coolant Leaks

Running low on this fluid can cause the engine to overheat as it can’t move warmth away from the engine. Regular coolant leaks may indicate you need a new hose, but if that’s not the case, the radiator might need replacement.

3. Clear Radiator Fins

Vehicle radiators feature fin tubes around the device to move hot coolant and distribute the air outside of the car. These car parts must be clear of insects, leaves, dust, and other debris, or they can’t circulate the air. If the vehicle is overheating, but the fins are clean, and the above issues aren’t at hand, you may benefit from replacing the radiator.
