Eating out with your young children can be challenging on occasion. Although you don’t want your kids to cause disruptions while eating at a restaurant, you also don’t want to miss opportunities for fun family outings at your favorite eatery. Here are a few ways to make the dining experience pleasant for everyone involved.

How to Encourage Good Behavior at a Restaurant

1. Enforce Manners at Home

Don’t wait until you go out to eat to teach your little ones table manners. Have them practice dining etiquette at home so that it becomes second nature. Be sure to teach them how to use utensils and say please and thank you to a waitstaff.

2. Set Expectations

Before arriving at the eatery, gently remind your little ones about what’s expected of them. Reinforce important manners, like using indoor voices and remaining seated during the meal. Offer incentives for appropriate behavior, like ordering dessert.

3. Pick a Table on the Side

4. Bring Toys, Books & Games

Kids may become bored while waiting for the food to arrive, and some youngsters have difficulty sitting still for extended periods. Make sure your children have plenty to do when dining out, so bring coloring books or ask them to play quiet games.

If your youngsters are ready for a sit-down dinner, take the family to Tante’s Fishmarket Restaurant & Bar in Wailuku, HI. Your little ones will be sure to find something they like on the kid’s menu, which features classic favorites, like cheeseburgers, fries, pizza, and spaghetti. Adults can choose from a wide selection of fresh seafood dishes, soups, salads, and steak entrees. View their menu online, or call (808) 868-2148 to make a reservation.
