Dr. Duarte Machado, co-Medical Director of the Chase Family Movement Disorders Center at Hartford Healthcare, called it “historic”.  “It” was a meeting, facilitated by Steve DeWitte (CAP) and Susan Lather(APDA/HHC), of various support group members from around the state of Connecticut.

Included in the meeting were VickiAnn Manville, CAP Southbury; Ivan Johnson, APDA Southbury; Lynn Hagerbrant, Shakers Anonymous, Fairfield County; Sarah Diaz, Waterbury Area and Hispanic community; Allyson Kinney and Ray Figlewski, Branford area CAP; Martha Jaffe, Connecticut Parkinson’s Working Group; Brenda Vanasse, CAP East Hartford & Central Connecticut; Susan Pelchat, Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group; Debra Ayers, Parkinson’s Unity Walk; Joe Kelley, state PD patient advocacy; Naida Rosado, Waterbury area and Hispanic community; and Chad Wickland.

Co-coordinator Steve DeWitte said: “I am so grateful for the attendance and participation of all those who attended the Support Group Leadership Meeting. I share the enthusiasm expressed by all. Such enthusiasm was exemplified through the group photo. The expressions of optimism were evident in the many faces. ...and a handsome group I would like to add. My memory is fading, regarding the divisions that once existed amongst the groups sitting at the table. The offer of support made to one another at the close of our meeting demonstrated great caring for our constituents, and a desire to advance our shared mission.” Historic, indeed.
