During a kitchen remodeling project, choosing a countertop material is one of the most important decisions you’ll have to make. There are many different options available, making it a difficult choice. This guide will help you decide on one that meets your budget, maintenance goals, and style preferences.

Which Countertop Material Is Best for Your Kitchen?

1. Laminate

Many homeowners select laminate countertops because of its low cost and easy maintenance. The material is also stain-resistant and comes in a variety of colors and styles. However, if you choose laminate, keep in mind that it can be damaged by heat and sharp knives, so take precautions when prepping food and cooking. For example, have them sealed every few years.

2. Granite

Granite does, however, require more maintenance than other materials. It should be wiped down with a lint-free cloth daily and sealed every six to 12 months to avoid stains and dirt buildup.

3. Quartz

If you like the look of natural stone, but want something that’s lower maintenance, quartz is an excellent option. This manufactured material is made from crushed quartz and resin, which allows for a much wider variety of colors and patterns than actual natural stone countertops. It’s also non-porous, so it resists stains, won’t absorb liquids and spills, and naturally resists bacteria and viruses. However, keep in mind that quartz is a high-end material, and the prices will reflect this.
