If you’re hitting the road or skies for holiday season, you’re likely going to come across a lot of faces. Whether at a highway travel center or airport, it’s easy to pick up an illness. To ensure you enjoy the holidays on your feet, stick to these health care practices.

How to Stay Healthy During a Holiday Trip

1. Get the Flu Vaccine

Flu season is well underway during the holidays, and your best defense is a vaccination. Don’t make the mistake of assuming you’re covered from last year’s; new strains are constantly developing, and a new vaccination is the only way to stay up to date. Visit a pharmacy or health care center. Many health insurance plans cover the vaccination, and it only takes a few minutes.

2. Wash Your Hands

If you don’t have access to a sink, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Between washes, avoid touching your face to reduce the likelihood of contracting the flu, cold, and other illnesses.

3. Practice Healthy Lifestyle Habits

Healthy living will give your immune system a boost. Bundle up any time you’re out in the cold. Enjoy plenty of nutrient-rich foods. Berries, dark leafy greens, all-natural fruit juices, and other healthy foods are loaded with magnesium, vitamin C, and antioxidants to keep you healthy. Get eight hours of sleep each night, and add light exercise to your daily schedule.
