Spring is the most popular time of year for outdoor weddings. The weather tends to be mild, schedules free up, and nature lends itself to the beauty of the occasion. Ideal or not, spring weddings can offer up their own challenges, so it pays to plan carefully. Here are three tips for planning an outdoor wedding in the springtime.

Advice for Spring Wedding Planning

1. Consider Lighting & Temperature

While it does stay lighter for longer at night in the spring, the temperature can still be quite chilly in the mid-morning and early evening, so plan accordingly. Don’t go overboard on tents and lights for a late-afternoon ceremony. Check the average temperatures in your area on your wedding date so you’ll know whether to rent area heaters to keep your guests comfortable. Better yet, plan the ceremony indoors, and have the reception outside, giving guests a place to retreat if they become cold.

2. Don’t Overdecorate

weddingWhen you get married in the spring, let nature speak for itself. Instead of using lots of decorations and centerpieces, set up tables and chairs in places where people can bask in the lush nature that surrounds them. Visit the venue in the days ahead of the wedding so you can make sure flowers are blooming in the important areas. Simple white fabrics and inexpensive greenery work perfectly when set up among a lush garden.

3. Mind Those Pests

Since pests can be a problem in the spring, light a few citronella candles in each area to ward off mosquitos and other flying insects. Even the most meticulous wedding venue will have a few pest visitors outdoors, after all. Pest-control candles are available in small tealights, so you won’t have to sacrifice style to keep your event comfortable.
