Just because your kids have a break from elementary school over the holiday season doesn’t mean the learning has to stop. There are plenty of holiday-related activities you can use to integrate some helpful and fun lessons. Here are a few ideas to help you make the most of their time away from school.

How to Nurture Learning in Elementary School-Aged Kids During Winter Break

1. Write Letters to Santa

Instead of bringing your kids to the mall to tell Santa about all the toys they want for Christmas, have them write out a list. They can practice sounding out words and writing about a topic they enjoy.

elementary school2. Bake Together

Baking cookies for Santa or making intricate desserts for Christmas dinner are popular activities this time of year. Include your kids in the process to help them practice their math skills. They can count the number of eggs you need, measure cups and tablespoons, and even learn about fractions as you add all the ingredients.

3. Make Homemade Cards

Encourage your kids’ artistic sides by asking them to make cards for the people in your family. You can even introduce some basic geometry by having them cut out shapes that they can use to depict characters like Santa or Baby Jesus. They can also practice their writing skills by including personalized messages inside each card.
