You have options for adjusting the amount of natural light in your home, with horizontal and blinds being among the most popular. But, is one better than the other? You must consider the dimension of the window, the method of use, and how the blinds go with the decor. Here are a few differences to think about before purchasing blinds.

Differences in Horizontal & Vertical Blinds

1. Cleaning

Vertical blinds are typically larger and in high-traffic areas of the home. They open and close easily, allowing homeowners to vacuum them periodically.

Horizontal blinds are located in smaller windows and are harder to reach. Their design keeps them clumped together, and strings or other devices can interfere with the cleaning process.

2. Privacy & Sunlight

Blinds-Dothan-ALVertical blinds are typically located on windows facing the east and west to allow the most light into the home. They prevent UV rays from entering the home but provide light as the rays bounce off the slats. However, pets, humans, and HVAC systems may bump the slats open; this allows unwanted people a glimpse into your home.

Horizontals are designed to allow the sunlight in but are placed on the north and south sides of the home; they can be raised or lowered, which limits a visual from the outside world.

3. Slats

The slats on vertical blinds are larger, and reach the floor. If the door is slightly opened, or the HVAC vent is pointed toward the blinds, they will move and be louder than horizontals.
