Your iPhone® provides instant access to many of the communication and information tools you need. However, this access will be cut short as soon as the battery drains. While Apple® devices are notorious for their ultra-slim and long-lasting batteries, extended use may still leave you without enough power—especially if you own an older model. Fortunately, by following these five tips, you can reduce your device’s power usage and increase the longevity of the battery.

5 Tips to Boost Your iPhone Battery

1. Turn Off Functions You Don’t Need

In addition to apps, your Apple device may also have several background processes that are draining the battery, such as WiFi connectivity, background app refresh, AirDrop®, Bluetooth, and automatic updates. Go to your phone’s settings to locate these functions and turn them off.

If you have iOS™ 9 or later, you can also go to Settings > Battery and enable Low Power Mode to turn off all non-essential processes.

2. Reduce Screen Brightness

Apple devicesThe brighter your screen is, the more often you’ll need to charge your battery. You can reduce these levels by going to Settings > Display & Brightness and sliding the brightness bar to the left. If you don’t want to do this manually, you can also go to Settings > Accessibility > Display Accommodations and turn on Auto-Brightness.

3. Avoid Vibrate

Vibrate may be helpful if you need to be alerted in a quiet setting, but the motors required to make the phone shake require a lot of power. If you don’t need vibrate, consider turning it off to extend the battery life.

4. Evaluate Battery Activities

If you’ve followed the above steps, but are still experiencing suboptimal power usage, go to Settings > Battery. Select Last 24 Hours and scroll down to view Battery Usage by App. If there’s an app that’s using too much power, it may need to be updated, reinstalled, or deleted altogether.

5. Upgrade the Battery

Over time, the batteries in Apple devices will start to lose their ability to hold a charge, requiring you to plug it in more often. If you use older equipment, visit an iPhone repair specialist to replace the battery or upgrade you to one that offers extended life.
