TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.

I am a wife of 28 years married to my high school sweetheart.  I am also a mom of a 23 year old who also enjoys CrossFit.  My husband discovered CrossFit and I never thought it would be my thing, even though I was the one who went running or exercised nearly every day.  My professional background is Occupational Therapy because I wanted to help others rehabilitate from acute illness or injury.  I also wanted to do something that kept me active in my profession, not sitting at a desk.  Although, ironically I sit behind a desk now.

TELL US SOMETHING WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU.

I love all animals, but especially dogs and I care about their health and wellness too.  I enjoy spending time with my dogs and I want them to have good nutrition and good exercise daily.

WHAT IS ONE BELIEF OR BEHAVIOR WHICH HAS MOST IMPROVED YOUR LIFE THAT YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHERS?

I believe that in order to be “Healthy” you need exercise, 80/20 good nutrition, friends and a positive outlook on life and the world.  You also need goals both personally and professionally.

HOW DID YOU FEEL BEFORE WALKING THROUGH THE CFER DOOR FOR THE FIRST TIME?

I thought I was ahead of the curve, and maybe I was.  I was a runner and I did body weight exercises in my home.  However, I was surprised to learn how unbalanced my strength and endurance was because I was strong in my quads and weak everywhere else.  I still struggle with using and strengthening my posterior chain.

WHAT DID YOU THINK AFTER COMPLETING YOUR FIRST CROSSFIT WORKOUT?

I felt proud and excited!  I still feel that way even when the workout of the day is way out of my comfort zone.  I was 45 when I started Crossfit, I wish I would have started sooner.

HOW IMPORTANT IS OUR COMMUNITY TO YOU?

The CrossFit community is the most unique part of joining a CrossFit box.  You won’t know how different it is until you join one.  All participants encourage others to do their best, whatever that is.  Even the most competitive and hard core athletes take time to tell me I am doing a good job at my highly scaled effort.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK TO CLASS?

Coaches and people. It’s like a team.  You team up with your class and everyone does the best they can.  I look forward to seeing the team every morning.  I also like that the workouts are so varied.  The stimulus of the day is often different than the day before.  I am never bored or unmotivated.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT ELK RIVER CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

Many ways!  CFER Keeps me focused on health and wellness.  I look forward to seeing what the workout is each evening.  It encourages me to get some good sleep and good nutrition.  Also, knowing I have Crossfit in the early morning helps me make good choices the evening before.
