Let’s be realistic, losing weight during the holidays may not be a goal you should try to achieve. With the many temptations this time of year it may be more realistic to maintain your weight. Making sensible food choices while allowing a little room for indulgence can be the best strategy.

5 Musts for a No-Gain Holiday Season:

  1. Weigh yourself once or twice a week in the morning to keep you mindful of where you are at or if you notice an upward trend.
  2. Get moving! Schedule in a little more activity to balance extra calorie intake. An extra 20-30 minute walk in the morning or after work will do.
  3. Work your willpower muscle. Learning to say “no” becomes easier the more you do it.  Try to keep all guilt or feelings associated with food aside and focus on simply saying “no thanks”.
  4. Maintain your eating schedule. Keep eating at least 3 meals a day. Avoid skipping meals to allow for high-calorie options later in the day. In fact, in most cases this is not helpful because you quickly consume those extra calories and then some.
  5. Trade in peppermint desserts for peppermint tea. This naturally calorie-free option has a pleasantly sweet taste which can help curb cravings and help you warm up from the cold temps.

This holiday season eat some of the foods you love, but remember moderation. Creating these lifestyle changes will empower you not only now but at your next social event and will teach you how to prevent weight regain.
