Whether we're due for new ones or are abandoning glasses, choosing the best contact lenses for your needs can be difficult. Synonymous with convenience, many people are unaware that daily, weekly, and monthly contacts are available—and what they can do for them. Not to fear, the eye doctors from Edwin Y. Endo, OD & Associates located in Aiea, Hawaii, are here to explain what each of these types of contacts entail and which one would work best for you.

  • Daily Contacts: Great for people who don't need to wear their contact lenses every day or are unsure about their needs, daily lenses have many differences than the typical monthlies. Only being able to be worn for a few hours a day, daily contacts are thinner lenses—making them more damage- and scratch-prone —and should be disposed of after their first use. Though they are cheaper due to their shelf life, for people who wear this type of contact lens more than a few times a month, the cost adds up, making it more advantageous to purchase monthlies.
  • Weekly Contacts: For the more-than-occasional lens wearer, weekly contacts are great for someone needing more use of their contacts. Unlike dailies, weekly contacts have to be cleansed between uses. However, they are great for thwarting off infections because of their disposability. Since the lenses don't have to be switched out as often, they tend to cost less overall than dailies.
  • Monthly Contacts: If you're looking for more of a long-term solution, monthly contacts are right up your alley. Also disposable, monthly contacts can be worn one to three months at a time. Though not as low maintenance than the other two lenses, they are made of higher quality materials—offering better optics and vision. Since they will be with you for the long run, they need to be thoroughly cleaned to avoid infections.
