Invisalign braces have a lot of advantages over the traditional metal braces: they’re clear, they can be removed, they’re customized to your mouth, and they do a great job straightening and aligning your teeth. However, like conventional braces, Invisalign braces still need to be cleaned and cared for on a regular basis to ensure that they don’t break and that you achieve the optimal results. Cincinnati, OH’s best orthodontist, Dr. Lamont Jacobs of Lamont Jacobs Orthodontics is here with some expert tips on how to take care of your Invisalign aligners.

  • Clean Your Invisaligns After Every Time You Eat: It might be strange at first but you can eat with your aligner in. Its is important that the aligner never be out of your mouth longer than 20 minutes to continue the tooth moving process. Right after eating or drinking the aligner needs to be removed and cleaned. Since your Invisaligns can be easily discolored by colorful drinks, it’s recommended that you use a straw when you’re drinking something colorful. And of course, brush your teeth before you put your aligners back in, to make sure they’re not stained by any food that’s left behind in your mouth.
  • Always Store Your Aligners In A Safe Place: That safe place should be somewhere cool, dry, and out of the reach of children and/or pets. The case that Dr. Jacobs and his team will give you when you get your Invisaligns at the office is the absolute best place to store them.
  • Clean Your Aligners On A Regular Basis: Your aligners are exposed to the exact same bacteria that your mouth is, and just like your teeth and gums, harmful bacteria will build up in the trays if you don’t clean them regularly. To clean them properly, use the appropriate cleaning solutions, avoid soaking them in mouthwash or using harsh chemicals, and follow the instructions that Dr. Jacobs and his staff give you to the letter.
  • Follow The Recommended Procedure For Inserting And Removing Your Invisaligns: Your aligners need to be removed and put back in the same way each time. When taking them out, remove them starting with the molars in the back, and carefully move forward. When you’re putting them back in, do the reverse: start at the front and move carefully to the back.

And of course, if you do have any questions, you can always ask Dr. Jacobs and his knowledgeable team.
