Acquiring smooth, radiant skin is a priority for many people as they age, and at-home care isn’t always enough to achieve that goal. Fortunately, laser treatment and resurfacing is available as a solution. To help you decide if it sounds right for you, here are the answers to some common questions about the treatment.

Laser Skin Treatment FAQ

Who is the ideal candidate?

Laser resurfacing reduces scars and wrinkles, evens out discoloration, and tightens loose skin. The ideal patient will have one or several of these issues.

However, patients with existing acne or dark skin can be more difficult to treat. The treatment also isn’t effective on stretch marks or deep wrinkles.

How does laser treatment work?

laser-treatment-konaLaser resurfacing treatment resolves wrinkles and other issues by removing the top layers of skin with a pulsing light beam. The average treatment can take as little as 10 minutes, and you can return to everyday activities right away.

Does it hurt?

Patients are often most concerned about pain. Though discomfort is commonly reported, the intensity varies according to patient and procedure. Many patients report tenderness after the treatment, though it resolves in a few days. Deeper skin resurfacing can be more uncomfortable, so a local anesthetic may be offered.

How long do results last?

Most patients require a series of treatments before they achieve noticeable results. In cases of deeper treatment, downtime between each session may be required depending on how well you heal. The overall results will improve throughout the first year after treatment, and they can last for several years with proper skin care.

The natural aging process will more introduce wrinkles going forward. Use an SPF 30 sunscreen any time you go outside and clean your skin daily to protect your results.
